| I'm new to this online journal thing. So hopefully if won't take to long to get the hang of it. This is the first in what I hope is many entries over the coming year.
I've now been in Kuwait for a day and a half now. I'm still suffering a little bit from jet lag, but after some good sleep a little later, hopefully that'll go away. I've really enjoyed it here so far. Initially, I was a bit skeptical about it, but once we got on base I felt better. By the way, I'm at Camp Arifjan, but I won't say exactly where that is in case I'm not supposed to. Although, I know a few of you reading this know where that is already. After riding around different parts of Kuwait, I discovered many things that were different than home. Of course, the obvious being that it looks like one giant beach for the most part. I got to see my first camel too. And my first mosque. I also discovered that there isn't much of an environmental clean-up program. There was garbage all over the sides of the roads. And when it got windy, it was even worse. By the way, when it gets windy here, it sucks. The sand blows everywhere, and it looks like a giant snowstorm. It leaves you quite misserable because the sand gets everywhere.
Later in the day, the sandstorm died down and I began to feel better. I took my first shower in 2 1/2 days and felt like a million bucks. I got to walk around and see the sites of the area of Arifjan that I am at. They have a nice px store inside of a tent. It has almost everything I need and they even keep updated on dvds and cds. Some of the food has arabic writing on it, like the Snickers bar. I went and bought some new sheets for my bunk and also a rug, since the floor in the place I'm living is concrete and constantly covered in a thin layer of sand. I also discovered the internet cafe, which is where I'm at now. They also have some food places like burger king, subway, and baskin robbins ice cream. There are some other cool places that I'll take pictures of to show later.
I don't have enough time to go into more detail on everything, but I'll continue to write about it as time passes. But right now I'm feeling good about things and I think I can make it a year here just fine. So until next time, God Bless. |
